Backpacks come in all shapes and sizes and allow students to express their own sense of style. When used properly, backpacks can be a useful tool to assist children in transporting necessary items to and from school. However, when a backpacks is worn improperly, it can lead to pain and strain on muscles and joints. Parents and students can take steps together to choose, load and wear the backpacks the right way to avoid health problems.

Band or Art
Band
The band program is designed to assist students in the development of instrumental techniques, music reading skills, intonation, performance skills, and preparation skills. In band, children learn self-discipline, commitment to individual and group efforts and, in addition, build confidence in performing in public.
The instrumental choices are flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, or percussion. Families are expected to rent or purchase their child’s instrument, which is approximately $20-$40 per month depending on the type of instrument and the quality desired. Bass clarinets, French horns, euphoniums, and tubas may be rented through the Pembina Trails School Division.
There will be orientation sessions held in June (TBA) for the incoming Grade 7 band students to make their instrumental selections.

The Middle Years foyer is open for students in Grades 7&8 from 8:30-9:00. Supervision is provided during this period of time.

As this level is the transition year from Friendship Tournaments at grade 6 the PTAA felt it was important to ease the journey and keep the general philosophy of equal playing time intact yet provide more opportunities for competitive play.

The PTAA bylaws further state that at the grade 8 and 9 levels students should play in every game, with the amount of playing time being significant. The playing time of each player is at the discretion of the coach who may determine that extenuating circumstances (e.g. behaviour, attendance etc.) may affect a player\'s playing time. This statement is the one that is often open to interpretation so I will clarify.

“Significant” implies that, although the playing time for each athlete may not be equal, once a game is completed each player should feel as though they had contributed to the outcome.
