Dear Parents/Guardians:

This letter is to let you know that Pembina Trails School Division now has a policy that requires a Student Threat Assessment be done in all cases of student(s) making significant threats. Examples of serious threats include possession of weapon(s), threats to kill or seriously injure others, and bomb threats. The purpose of the assessment is to help us know how best to support high risk student(s) and those affected by the situation in order to promote the safety and welfare of all.

Should you wish to review the Student Threat Assessment policy, please check our website at www.pembinatrails.ca or ask for a copy at your child(ren)'s school.

It would be helpful if you would discuss this policy with your child(ren) so they know that if they bring anything to school that could be used as a weapon, if they make serious threats or have been threatened themselves, the school will take any necessary steps to as much as possible ensure everyone is safe. If you come across information that is of serious concern or if your child shares information that is disturbing, please be sure to let the school know.

This letter is intended to serve our community with fair notice that there will be a response to a serious threat. Our goal is to respond to threats in a professional way that provides a safe and caring learning environment for all.

Sincerely,

Paul Moreau
Superintendent of Schools
