Our Statement of Beliefs

Throughout the year we review belief statements with students. We ask that you also spend some time with your children discussing these beliefs and what they may “look like and sound like” in practice in the classroom, the halls, the playground at school and at home with friends.

1. We believe in the pursuit of excellence through the provision of innovative instruction and encouragement to “personal best” performance. We believe in trying our best with the help and encouragement of our teachers.

2. We believe that all people involved in our school community help promote intellectual, physical, social and emotional growth resulting in a healthy, active lifestyle. We believe everyone should help everyone in all ways.

3. We believe that all people in the school community share the responsibility for ensuring that the school is a safe and healthy place for learning. We believe that everyone should help make our school a safe and healthy place for learning.

4. We believe in the value of each individual and in respect for the rights and properties of all. We believe everyone should treat each other and their things with care.

5. We believe in a positive school atmosphere that is open, friendly, supportive and encouraging. We believe that our school is a place where everyone is kind and helpful.

6. We believe that all people involved in the school community have a role in the decisions affecting it. We believe that everyone can have a say in what happens at our school.

7. We believe that the prime purpose of our school community is to foster lifelong learning, where individuals increasingly take responsibility for their own learning. We believe that the main job of our school is to help students learn how to learn for the rest of their lives.

8. We believe that flexibility in teaching methods is required to match learning styles to enable students to achieve their potential. We believe that everyone learns differently and that teachers will teach so that all kids learn.

9. We believe that assessment of individual growth is a process that is flexible and encompasses each student’s progress within the context of curricular goals.
